I am passionate about spinning Lakeland Alpaca and Wool. Alpacas are a recent introduction into the Lakeland landscape and provide a superb hypoallergenic blanket which is beautiful spun raw.
Kendal was once the most industrialised town in England with a cottage industry active in washing, sorting, carding, spinning dyeing and weaving wool mainly Kendal Green which was the everyday stuff for wearing. The old inns such as The Fleece Inn, The Woolpack and The Weavers Arms bore witness to the trade. The Kendal Coat of Arms has the wool emblems of bale hooks and teasels and the motto “Wool is my Bread”.
