Bitter Beck Pottery

Joan Hardie

My inspiration comes from the colours, textures and forms of the natural world, particularly from trees, where close observation never fails to reveal treasure. I find ceramics an ideal medium in which to reflect on the qualities of nature. Clay has enormous expressive power to portray aspects of nature in objects with their own tactile and visual beauty, and is itself a source of inspiration. I make original and unique hand-built wall collages, hanging pieces, vases, bowls and dishes. Mostly these are stoneware but I also use red earthenware and porcelain clays. I use a wide range of oxides, slips and glazes to obtain a variety of surface finishes. Every piece is different.

Bitter Beck Pottery is open to the public. Prices range from £5 to £500. Please check my website for opening hours.

Bitter Beck Pottery is also featured in the Made in Cumbria Craft Map.
