Rag Rug Courses

Judith invites you to Eden House her home on the edge of the Lake District to learn the artisan craft of rag rug making.

She has been involved in the making of rag rugs for years and is an accomplished tutor. She welcomes commissions and sells her work at craft fairs and retail outlets. As well as teaching rug making at Eden House she also holds fortnightly classes for members of Carlisle U3A and occasional workshops at other venues.

Beginners are especially welcome as Judith feels strongly that she should make her contribution to the survival of the craft using many contemporary fabrics which may also appeal to a younger generation. She is by nature a calm and very patient person so that clients may be assured that their course time will be spent in a productive but relaxed and informal way.

The courses do not operate on set dates but are arranged to meet the convenience of her clients. They are held at the address below and are usually of a single day's duration. Each commences at 9.15 a.m. and ends around 4.45 p.m.

A rug frame, prodding or hooky tool and all materials are provided for the course, as are refreshments and lunch. Special dietary requirements may be accommodated on prior notice. At the end of a course each client is given comprehensive course notes.

Judith can supply by mail order both rug frames and de luxe prodders. The frames are £40 (including p & p) and are complete with a calico bag containing frame pegs, prodder, hessian, sample 'clips' and full instructions. The de luxe prodders are available in ash, elm, oak, yew or African hardwoods and are £5 each (including p & p).

The all-inclusive fee is currently £40 a day. No deposit is required. The fee may be paid in cash or by cheque supported by a cheque guarantee card. Gift vouchers are available at no extra cost.
