Meet the makers and buy local - Cumbrian crafters offering unique gifts from pencil portraits, embroidered pictures, paintings, photography and perfumes to hand crafted cards, ceramics, egg caskets, jewellery, soaps, textiles and woodturnings. Commissions welcomed.

Hours: March to Dec: 9.30am to 5pm most weekends and some weekdays. Please check the website.

A popular award-winning farm attraction including a farmhouse tearoom with a large 1760 stone barn, full to bursting with high quality crafts and art made by hand in Cumbria, with a new Gift Gallery opening for 2010. Also Farm Animal Park, Playbarn, Go-cart Track, Playground and a large walk through Parrot Aviary.

Hours: Every day except Mon (incl. Bank Holidays) 10.30am to 4.30pm.

Admission: Free except for admission charge to Farm Animal Park.

Newtown between Beckfoot and Mawbray and follow the signs.

Hesta Scene? is a working studio gallery showcasing a unique range of work from post-graduate students and established artists/makers, set in the beautiful village of Caldbeck. Exhibits include paintings, textiles, jewellery, ceramics and more.

Exciting and diverse courses are also available for children aged 5-16 years and adults.

Hours: Daily 10am to 4pm (closed Jan to mid-Feb).

A feast for all the senses ... there is so much to see and do. With a contemporary art gallery, farmhouse tearoom, spa and sculpture valley with extended country walks. Changing exhibitions include paintings, textiles, glass, jewellery, ceramics and more.

Admission: Free except to the valley.

Directions from the north: M6 J42, follow signs for Dalston. Turn left at the Black Lion Pub. Approx. 4 miles turn right at brown sign. Approx. 3/4 mile look for sculpture on the left. From the south: M6 J 41, follow sign for Wigton (B5305). At Hutton-in-the-Forest turn right. Approx. 5 miles turn left (signposted High Bridge / Stockdalewath). Approx. 3/4 mile look out for sculpture on the left.

Directions: Turn off A595 to Egremont, on Main Street.

Offering a wide selection from over 100 Cumbrian makers featuring outdoor clothing, greetings cards, glassware, ceramics, wood ware, pictures, jewellery, toys, Lakeland photography and figurines. There is also a cafe in the Rheged Centre, alongside a range of other outlets.

Contemporary Art and Design in Cockermouth’s oldest town house, dated 1390.

Exhibitions ranging from textiles to photographs, paintings and sculpture. Unique furniture, ceramics, jewellery, glass, metalwork and textiles.

Hours: Mon to Sat: 10am to 5pm. Due to Nov flooding will open summer 2010. Please phone before to check open date.

Directions: 2 minutes’ walk along Main Street, just over the River Cocker.

Working arts and crafts studio and shop supporting local artists. The studio is currently hosting two textile artists specialising in weaving and mixed media. A chance to see the making processes behind a piece of work or catch a demonstration.

Hours: Tue to Sat: 9.30am to 4.30pm. Closed 24 Dec – 1 Jan.

Directions: Opposite Carlisle Castle and very close to Tullie House.
